Please take all opinions expressed here at the value of what they are: opinions. Rockheads is a very interesting store. The location is quite large for a comic shop in the area. The layout is long and fairly narrow with some video games and gaming tables in the front. The rest of the store is packed with various types of collectibles. . . and a parrot. The store product mix seems to focus on action figures and possibly gaming. Unfortunately I am not well versed in either of these areas. The comic book area isn't very impressive. They have a 10-12 foot rack of new releases which seems to have the mainstream titles. Quite a few boxes of back issues are also available, containing what seems to be mostly mainstream titles. The back issues for the most part are from the modern age with a few perhaps from the silver age, certainly nothing extensive. I get the feel that the back issues are over orders from the new comic shelf or collections that were bought. It doesn't seem like they attempt to stock titles or maintain available runs of back issues. They do stock most of your general comic collecting supplies. The non-sports section in many ways mirrors the comic section. They have a few older packs of cards (probably about 25-30 titles) most of which are priced at the original MSRP, and have been picked over. Quite a bit of these are priced at $1-2 per pack, but readily available as boxes from other sources for less than $10 a box. They do have several older boxes of cards - many of which are fairly desirable. . . these are not priced to move. Rockheads carries a little new non-sports, but I haven't figured out how they decide what to order as most of the cards that seem like obvious choices are never purchased. They didn't carry Lord of the Rings, but have over 2 boxes of NECA Nightmare before Christmas still sitting on the counter. I've never found Rockhead's employees overly friendly since visiting the store half a dozen times over the past 9 months. In general the employees seem more interested in whatever game is going on in the store at the moment than helping people who are trying to spend money. This is especially frustrating since many of the items I have been interested in didn't have prices on them. To me Rockheads store feels a lot like it's web site . . . There is quite a bit there, but I can't figure out how to find what I need, and no one is around to help me find some direction. |
