Store Review:
PLEASE NOTE: The views expressed here are not those of THE MASTER LIST, but rather, those of people who have visited the store listed above. Please take all opinions expressed here at the value of what they are: opinions.

  1. On entering the store, a wide selection of gaming supplies is immediately apparent. An employee working the counter will usually greet customers and offer help. I must look at the store from a gamer's perspective, so I cannot give any review on the store's comic or video selection. However, the store supports most types of gaming and carries most popular and some little known games and supplies. The employees are usually friendly and willing to discuss gaming and help to find products. Tables are open for gamers to play on, and various leagues are held throughout the week. The store does have a few cleanliness issues, but these are merely irritating at worst. Overall, the store caters very well to gamers and has a competent stock.

  2. My first and last impressions of this store remained the same: this is the worst comic store on the Peninsula. Upon entering the store I was greeted by no comics and absolutely no employee. Everyone in the shop was engrossed, some rather audibly, in their gaming. I finally found the comics relegated to the back fourth or so of the shop. They shared shelves with two large "NO READING" signs, which pretty clearly clued me into their store policy. I noticed a couple of issues that had been left lingering on the shelf for more than a year. I then couldn't find the back issue bins. Ah, there they were--underneath the gaming tables. When I asked to browse the back issues, one employee wordlessly trudged to the back and lifted up the table, asking his friend for help. Not once did this employee speak directly to me, not when I asked "Do you need any help with that?" nor when I said "Thank you." Their back issues had obviously been seldom touched for about five years. I have never seen that much "Punisher" on sale for above cover price. I am in no position to evaluate the gaming portion of the store, but it is very obvious Atomic Comics is no longer a comics store. Any casual comic shoppers will be ignored at best, unwelcome at worst.

Shop Owner Rebuttal: I remember the gentleman who wrote this unfair statement about my store just like yesterday. He came in asking where the new comics were. I instructed him they were in the back of the store with rest of our back issues. He walked to the back of the shop for about 5 minutes and came back up to the front and asked if I could remove a table that was sitting on 1 of 6 back issue bins from the night before due to a Friday Night Magic event. I told him of course, no problem, please give me a yell if I could assist you with anything else. He then came back to the front and asked me what kind of discounts were available on new comics. I told him that a customers with a pull service with me receive a 10% discount on new comics and 25% discount on back issues. He demanded the discount regardless. I told him that he would have to sign up for a pull service in order to receive the discounts. He said he had a pull service at another shop. Normally, I would give a new customer the discount in order to do business with them in the future. But this guy was totaly rude and demanded a discount so I refused. He stomped out of my store and said that he would be leaving a bad review of my store. So I took it as "whatever" until one of my regular customers sent me a link to the statement he left about my shop on your site. I've been in business for over 15 years, so we must be doing something right.
