Owner/Employee Info/Comments:
This location has now been open for 10 years. I just purchased the store from the previous owner on August 1st. We are in the process of striving to make this the best comic store possible. My wife Sandy and I have had the Kiln Creek location open for 3 years. We pride ourselves in execellent customer service. We have made improvements in the Newport News location and will continue to do so.

Store Review:
PLEASE NOTE: The views expressed here are not those of THE MASTER LIST, but rather, those of people who have visited the store listed above. Please take all opinions expressed here at the value of what they are: opinions.

  1. I have been a customer of AF Comics for over fourteen years. Throughout those fourteen years, I have been a regular customer, and gotten to know the owner very well. Gary and Sandy both know how to operate a friendly and successful comic book shop. The storefront is customer friendly and is well stocked with all sorts of comics from almost every company out there. From DC to Marvel to Independents, AF Comics has something for everyone. The store is well lit, and easily accessible for customers. The back issues are well stocked and the prices are right. AF Comics also has a childrens section, for those parents who want age appropriate material for their young readers. But the best part of AF Comics is their customer service. Gary and Sandy treat their customers well and the staff knows their stuff. If a customer has trouble finding an item, they won't hesitate to help. Also, if the store doesn't have a particular item, they will be glad to order it for you. I have found AF Comics to truly be the best comic book shop in the Hampton Roads area. From their selection, customer service, and knowledge, AF Comics has everything I need. Sometimes even more than I need! [4/25/07]

  2. Amazing Fantasy is a well-run store that has improved a lot over the past year. This location is now the first of a couple locations in Hampton Roads, and is a bit better than their Yorktown store. The store is well-lit and not cramped. The person who manned the counter during my visit was quiet, but friendly. They have a wider selection of new comics than most stores their size: quite a few Oni, Slave Labor, AiT/PlanetLar and lower profile Image comics were visible alongside the standard new comics. My only qualm are the few small signs displaying "Thank you for not reading," a personal turn-off. The trade paperback selection is admirable. Many shelves are devoted to them. Selections include a complete Sandman and Preacher, and even two copies of From Hell, a fairly difficult book to find around here. The back issue bins are adequate. The prices on par with most price guides, but in an area with many discount back issue bins, this can seem costly. Overall, Amazing Fantasy is good store that seems to be improving. The selection of new comics and trades now is significantly better than what they had only a year ago. I can only assume that the shop will continue to improve and that the last couple of "No Reading" signs will soon fall.
