Owner/Employee Info/Comments:
Atomik Comiks is the absolute largest and most stocked shop in the area. Both other local comic shops could fit in my building (which I own, I might add) and still have room left over. I have the deepest stock numbering in the thousands of Silver Age in Tennessee. I just sold an Amazing Fantasy 15 - the third such in my 11 years of business. We carry a large selection of vintage toys with complete runs of the Kenner original Star Wars, Transformers & G.I. Joe's from the 60's, 70's and 80's. More posters than the other shops combined, and I could go on and on. Our subscription service blows all the stores away. You always see competitors regulars at our shop because they are constantly missed by whoever handles subs at their "regular store". But you never hear of any Atomik Comiks customers having to go any where else but one place. We give deeper discounts sacrificing our own profits so others can enjoy their comic choices to the utmost. We were featured on the front page of the local paper for the FOURTH time in eleven years concerning free comic day and the Spidey movie. We ordered a thousand spideys alone for free comic day, once again showing who is trying to get the new and old readers interested in a hobby I believe is flirting with another renaissance. We at Atomik feel the quality of books, novelties, and such are at an all-time high.

Store Review:
PLEASE NOTE: The views expressed here are not those of THE MASTER LIST, but rather, those of people who have visited the store listed above. Please take all opinions expressed here at the value of what they are: opinions.

  1. We all might get a little grouchy if we had been caring for our ailing mother for a few years with no help from any other family member while trying to run a business. His energy and dedication to both are unquestionable and admirable. He is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about comics that he is more than happy to share, and he tries very hard to please his customers. His store is like a museum, and it is really fun to see and be surrounded by so many interesting and rare items. Comics and toys are not just Shawn's profession, they are his passion. [1/01/08]

  2. This store has the same great selection as always, but it seems to me that the employee friendliness is declining. The atmosphere at this store used to be great but has gone from good to bad. The owner is a great guy, but seems to have become rude and pessimistic. The last few times I stopped in I felt like a unwanted houseguest instead of a buying customer. If you are not a long time regular be prepared to be ignored and looked past. During Free Comic Book Day, while lesser stores were having special events, this store was standing over the free comics like prison wardens. Add to this, I feel that the store is cluttered and hard to get around. [5/13/07]

  3. Atomik Comiks is the best experience I've had in weekly shopping. I've been an avid fan for 22 years and been a regular shopper at various stores across the country. When I moved to Johnson City, I visited each of the 3 local comic shops and Atomik was almost instantly home. The store is fully stocked with most back-issues still available for cover price. I've been a subscriber for six months now and have yet to have a book missed. In fact, everytime I've added a new book to my subscription, Shawn has chased down all of the previous issues for me. This store takes customer service to a new level. I meet different people every week as we all engage Shawn in comic debate and wouldn't consider shopping anywhere else. [3/10/07]

  4. I have been a customer at Atomik Comiks for nearly 10 years, and I would love to share with the world what a great place it is. The owner, Shawn Samier, is a hardcore comic lover with a huge personal collection of Marvel comics from the 1960's to the present day. He has a large selection of Marvel, DC, Image, ABC and other independent titles, as well as the largest back issue collection in the area. The store is huge, with posters and prints from the last few decades covering almost all of the walls. A comic lover could spend hours just wandering around looking at all the amazing memorabilia that the owner has amassed over the years. He carries a large selection of toys, trade paperbacks, hardcovers, cold-cast sculptures and action figures, both new and used. The subscription service is great, and Atomik has the best discount for subscribers in the region. Books are rarely, if ever, left out of my subscription, and the owner is terrific about tracking down any issue he does miss- going as far as to go to the competitors store to purchase a full-price copy just so a subscriber doesn't miss an issue. In short, this is one of the best comic stores in the region, and well worth the drive to Johnson City.

  5. This is the largest store in the Tri-City area. It has the most back issues available, particularly SILVER AGE. They are very organized for costumer convenience. Recently the store has been remodeled adding more walkways creating a better traffic flow and more standing room. When entering the store look over to your left and you will see one large rack containing the last few months of Marvel and DC titles, and two smaller racks that hold other independents. Further down is a T-shirt and poster bin that separates the new books from the enormous trade paper back section, which is divided into three sections: Marvel, DC, and Independent. Down the middle isle of the store are several back issue bins. Marvel and DC are in the front reaching to the center where a huge showcase stands containing a variety of statues and various collectibles. Just past the showcase are two more bins of independent back issues. The left side of the store is lined with showcases of vintage toys ranging from 70ís Star Wars, Transformers, GI Joe, He-man, and much more. The back of the store is filled with packaged action figures that could stock a small toy store. Items are priced reasonably and the staff is more than willing to offer discounts. This is the only store that still offers a 20% discount on subscriptions in the area. Itís also one of the few stores in which the staff is knowledgeable about the current books and willing to offer honest opinions on the titles. If you donít see a title or trade you want they will order it for you. If you would like them to carry a particular Manga or independent title just ask and you shall receive.
