Store Review:
PLEASE NOTE: The views expressed here are not those of THE MASTER LIST, but rather, those of people who have visited the store listed above. Please take all opinions expressed here at the value of what they are: opinions.

  1. Magnum Opus is one of the best anime/comic shops in Grand Rapids! There is a great selection of manga and graphic novels (small-press, alternative and indi). Also, they largest and most complete anime rental selection I've ever seen! If you can't find something the owner is more than happy to try and special order it for you. A most see place for all anime enthusiasts in Grand Rapids!! [7/09/06]

  2. The previous (rather parochial and fanboyish) reviewer criticised Magnum Opus because they don't cater to his own narrow interests. Quite right: They =don't= carry mainstream comics; you can get those at another store just a block away. Magum Opus is a small specialty shop that caters to adults (and older teens) whose tastes include underground/alternative comics, anime, etc.

  3. The name of this shop suggests a cafe where you can sit down and maybe enjoy a comic or two while drinking coffee. This is not the case by a longshot. I arrived there to find no Image, DC, or Marvel comics, save the 2 or 3 found on a sparce back issue bin. Old Dark Horse and quite a few independants were present, covering a small 5x8 wall, but nothing that I considered buying. The store seemed to pride itself on its huge collection of anime movies and obscure films. A large percentage of these movies were of the porngraphic nature and should say so on the front of the store. If a true comic fan were to enter this store, they would be sorely disappointed and decide to look elsewhere for their beloved titles.
