Doselle Young, my husband and author of THE MONARCHY did a signing at Ralph's Comic Corner, June 23rd, and it was GREAT. Ralph and his posse (including manager Mike, counterman Dorian and game-master Sean) made Doselle, colorist Ian Hannin and myself feel most welcome. And we were all suitably impressed with the store itself. It's spacious, lively, friendly, incredibly well-stocked, well-run, well lit--and with a vast back room filled to the rafters with enough comic boxes to drop a fanboy to his knees in awe and prayer. I mean it was like walking into a comic book Cathedral. I especially liked the way people flowed in and out all day long, without the store ever feeling crowded or over-run--or empty and dull for that matter. There were folks quietly gaming away in one area, shopping for comics in another, picking up back issues in yet another. And there was Doselle and Ian, at a table right at the front door, chatting with fans. All that a friendly, neighborhood store should be. I didn't know that the city of Ventura was such a terrific place either. Their "old town" area is just charming. Anyway, if anyone should happen to be visiting Ventura, or driving through it on their way to elsewhere, or if you're a pro doing signings in California, be sure to visit Ralphs. It's a great place.
